I have created my prototype for my re-design. You can view the final prototype here:
User Testing
I made user tasks for my user testing and observed the user as they were doing the task. Observing the user helped me see their body and facial language. It also showed me problems within the re-designed app that I could not see myself since I was the one who made it.
I made eight different tasks. They are grouped into two groups. I used two users and they each had four tasks:
User/Group 1:
Task 1
- Title: Add Netflix to Your Apps
- Description: You got the new update of the SmartThings app. You can now personalize your TV’s homepage with apps to access it easily. Sign into your account and add Netflix to your apps on Jordan's Bedroom TV.
Task 2
- Title: Add Netflix to Jordan’s TV Homepage
- Description: Since you added Netflix to your apps. Now add it to your TV’s Homepage for even easier accessibility.
Task 3:
- Title: Change your color palette to Pink
- Description: Along with the personalization, you can change the color scheme of the SmartThings app. Change your color scheme to Pink.
Task 4:
- Title: Delete Netflix from Jordan’s TV Homepage
- Description: Now delete Netflix from your TV’s Homepage.
User/Group 2:
Task 1
- Title: Create Account
- Description: You just got a new Samsung TV and got the SmartThings app. Create an account.
Task 2
- Title: Add a new device
- Description: Add your new Samsung TV to your devices.
Task 3
- Title: Add your device to Favorites
- Description: Now go to Favorites and add your new TV device to your favorites so it’s right there when you sign in.
Task 4
- Title: Delete your device
- Description: Delete your device from your devices page.
User Testing Findings
User 1
Task 1: The user was easily able to access Jordan's Bedroom TV. They then were able to add Netflix as an app. There were no reported problems.
Task 2: The user was able to add Netflix to the TV's Homepage. There were no problems.
Task 3: The user was able to change their color scheme to Pink by going to settings. No problem there.
Task 4: The user was able to delete Netflix from the TV's homepage. There was no problem there.
Feedback: They suggested doing a hover option for the 3 little dots where you can delete Netflix, devices, etc.
User 2
Task 1: The user was able to create an account
Task 2: The user was easily able to find and add a new device
Task 3: The user was able to add a device to Favorites.
Task 4: Was able to delete the device off the app.
Feedback: Suggested for Task 3 to have "add a new device' on the Favorites Page to go directly to adding favorite devices instead of it trying to add an actual new device.
